Parent/School Partnership: School Calendar
Each year the leadership team of Logos plans the school calendar with the best intentions of balancing the need for student instructional days with the need to address official Cambodian holidays. Good attendance at school is vital for student success.
The Student/Parent Handbook states: “All student absences must be reported to the office. Extended absences of 5 or more days require administrator approval.” Logos teachers are eager to partner with parents to help their students succeed, but parents are ultimately responsible for ensuring that their students receive the instruction necessary for success. Please consider this partnership when planning family events that take students away from school.

Community Partnerships
In an effort to create a wide array of Community Partnerships and to bridge students to Community Service opportunities for their graduation requirement of 20 service hours per year, we are reaching out to the wealth of organizations represented in our parent community here at Logos. If you are serving in an organization that would welcome High School students to serve in different capacities that utilize their unique gifts. Or, if you would like more information of what this entails, please contact lnelson@asianhope.org. Thank you for your consideration!
Environmental Club
The Logos environmental club will be going to elementary and secondary classes to kick off the installation of new plastic and can recycling bins around the school. Tim Hayes, a former student at Logos, designed the recycling bins and coordinated their construction and installation with Mr. Workman and the Logos maintenance staff. Please help Logos become better stewards of our resources and waste by recycling your plastic bottles, cups, and aluminum cans!

Healthy Breakfast for Wednesday updates
We are about half way through the school year and the morning routine could be becoming boring or tedious. Maybe you are like me feeling tired and looking for easy quick breakfast ideas like pastries, fried breads, rice porridge with just soya sauce because I’m too tired to fry the fish or I’m all out of eggs. I find myself looking for cereal that is quick and easy and can be kept on the shelf for a long time and doesn’t require any cooking on my part. Many parents feel that they are faced with a choice between purchasing high-sugar children’s cereal versus having their child eat no breakfast at all. In a recent study the effects of cereal as a breakfast option suggest that children will eat low-sugar varieties, and parents can make these options more appealing by adding a small amount of table sugar and/or fresh fruit to the bowl. This strategy could help reduce the amount of added sugar in children’s diets while also promoting a balanced first meal of the day. Read the entire article here Effects of Serving High-Sugar Cereals on Children’s Breakfast-Eating Behavior
Why all this talk about Breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It is the meal that is breaking the 8-10 hour food fast. It is easy to find research that supports why eating a healthy breakfast is important. For our student population many children eat between 6-7am and attempt to engaging in study for the next 5-6 hours before food! That’s hard work if they have not eaten a proper breakfast (or bring healthy snacks) that includes protein (egg, lean meats) fruits/veggie, carbohydrates (rice, bread, milk, yogurt). Here is a link to assist us as parents to think about how we can best support our children for a successful day of school. Healthy Breakfast or It’s all about Balance
